CONCEPT
In Chinese culture and philosophy, Tianxia (literally translating to “all under heaven”) represents a concentrically-ordered concept of harmonious civilization developed during the Zhou Dynasty with a focus on peaceful coexistence and shared hospitality in which the world is brought together under a singular “tent”.
Similarly, the design concept utilized a “tent” of folding ceiling planes as a figurative expression of the coffee fields and rolling hills where our most premium coffees are sourced, bringing all guests together under one earth. A raised peninsula coffee bar places the slow coffee experience at the center of an otherwise open retail environment allowing moments for guests to see and be seen. A material pallet of warm ochres and earthy neutrals is offset by board-formed concrete and expressive agricultural art, celebrating the farmer at the start of the coffee making process. An intimate library at the back of the store invites guests to learn more about the history of Tianxia in Asian culture as well as the coffee harvesting process.
